Certina is a Swiss watchmaker founded in 1888 by Adolf and Alfred Kurth in Grenchen, Switzerland. Initially producing watch movements, the company introduced its first complete watches under the name "Grana" in 1906. The brand name "Certina," derived from the Latin word "certus" meaning "certain," was officially registered in 1939.​
In 1959, Certina launched the DS (Double Security) Concept, creating watches with exceptional shock resistance and water resistance up to 200 meters. This innovation led to the Certina DS accompanying expeditions to the Himalayas and participating in the U.S. Navy's Sealab II project in the 1960s. The turtle shell symbol, representing robustness and longevity, became the brand's emblem during this era.​
Today, Certina continues to produce reliable, sporty timepieces, maintaining its commitment to Swiss quality and innovation.​
