Style Versus Fashion with Cuts For Him

A Men's Creative Stylist

When the opportunity arose to spend some time with Creative Director and Stylist Edmond of @cutsforhim recently, we jumped at the chance and our afternoon together was truly an education in both fashion and style. We think there's plenty of tips for anyone here to help develop your own unique style when it comes to watches and jewellery.

Do you have any early jewellery memories?

I would have to say the first type of watch I remember having was a Casio watch. I think I got it when I was about 14 or 15! This was my first watch and although it was a simple one, I loved the way it felt on my wrist and the functionality of it.

Looking back now it was the beginning of my love for watches and the brands behind them. I’ve always worn a watch since and have only begun to add jewellery to my look in the last 10-12 years and as my career and style has evolved.

How would you describe your own jewellery style and what inspires it??

For me fashion and style are two different things. Fashion is just what the industry is telling you to wear, but style is how you wear pieces together to create your unique look. I would describe my jewellery style as simple and practical.

Simple in the sense that I do not like to adorn myself with too much jewellery all at once, and practical in the sense that most of my jewellery choices have a real role to play either aesthetically or pragmatically. For example, I love wearing watches because they look good on my wrist but also help me keep track of my time.

My inspiration for my simple and practical style is tailoring. I love tailored suits and garments as everything is measured and in proportion and practical.

What jewellery pieces do you wear every day – do you have any pieces that hold special memories?

The Jewellery pieces that I wear everyday are my wedding band and my wrist watch but more so my wedding band. It never leaves my finger! The jewellery piece that holds special sentimental value would also have to be my wedding band, for obvious reasons. It reminds me of my commitment to my wife in the eyes of God and Man.

Have you noticed a rise in men becoming more interested in jewellery in recent years?

I have noticed a rise in men becoming more interested in and wearing jewellery more.
In my opinion, many jewellery pieces, for example earrings, were seen as female jewellery pieces but have seen a huge uptake by men in recent years. There has been a shift in gender specific pieces to gender neutral. This has made many jewellery pieces more acceptable for men to wear.
