IWC Schaffhausen launches new Ingenieur watch collection at star-studded gala event

This week, at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie in Geneva, IWC Schaffhausen hosted around 800 international guests and representatives of the media from around the globe for the launch of its new Ingenieur watches. The event was co-hosted by IWC CEO Georges Kern and Academy Award winner Kevey Spacey, while Nico Rosberg and his Formula One™ racing car galvanised the atmosphere and Jamiroquai supplied the music.

This latest IWC collection perfectly expresses the new partnership between IWC and the MERCEDES AMG PETRONASFormula One™ Team. As Georges Kern says, “IWC’s passion for engineering excellence, for the highest technical performance and for precision has earned it a high profile over the years. We associate these attributes with motor racing in general, but with the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team in particular. As their Official Engineering Partner for the next 3 years, we have forged a cohesive link between our Ingenieur line of watches and the thrills and heritage of Formula One™. Our latest innovations are dedicated to this partnership. This evening marks the start of the relaunch of this tradition-steeped watch family from the House of IWC.”

Nick Fry, Nico Rosberg and Ross Brawn

Guests included Tim Jefferies, Boris Becker, Peter Lindbergh and Marc Forster. Also present were Friends of the Brand Ewan McGregor, Zinédine Zidane, Karolina Kurkova, Ross Brawn, Adriana Lima, Luis Figo and Matthew Fox. A spectacular competition between some of the special guests followed when Nico Rosberg invited them to change the tyres on his Formula One car in a simulated pit stop.

Pitstop with Nico Rosberg

Geneva’s Palexpo Hall 1 provided an authentic impression of the exciting motor sport with three genuine MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS race trucks, parked at the red carpet, before the guests were welcomed in the garage area. There they had the opportunity to view replicas of the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ racing cars at close quarters. Meanwhile adrenaline levels soared, as visitors to the VIP cocktail lounge vied for pole position with remote-controlled racing cars.

Georges Kern gave tours of the IWC exhibition stand during the afternoon.  Amid a breathtaking atmosphere, IWC Brand Ambassadors enjoyed hands-on contact with the new watch collection.

The Schaffhausen manufacturer displayed its historic Ingenieur watches from the 1950s in mechanical showcases, in the style of moving pistons, along with the latest models in this extremely masculine collection. The partnership with the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team is again underpinned by the fact that some watchmaking innovations use the same high-tech materials as automotive engineering. For the first time in the history of IWC, a timepiece makes a proud appearance in an attractive carbon case. Titanium, titanium aluminide, ceramic and platinum also provide eye-catching features within the collection. “Motorsport means perfection, technology, action and emotion. We celebrate and display all these characteristics at our stand, so our guests can savour the world of performanceengineering,” concluded Georges Kern.

Kevin Spacey,  long-standing Friend of the Brand explained his appearance in Geneva: “I’ve been associated with the IWC brand for many years. As a fan of both watches and cars, it gave me immense pleasure to chair the IWC Race Night.”

Jamiroquai's Jay Kay and George Kern

Jamiroquai singer Jay Kay arrived in an SLS AMG, especially designed for the IWC Race Night, With their unique blend of funk, electro, pop and soul, the musicians lured the IWC gala guests on to the dance floor in droves and instilled a relaxed mood with their energy-charged private concert.

By all accounts, it was a thrilling event and we at Fraser Hart look forward to receiving this exciting new collection of IWC watches into our stores.

10% off almost everything online

Am I the only one having a heart-wrenching panic attack over my lack of completed Christmas shopping? I very much doubt it. I know it’s only the second week of December and I’ve still got two weeks to rush around shopping centres clutching on to a rapidly disappearing hope that that ‘perfect present’ I found online last month (and decided not to buy straight away) will majestically appear in from of me at a ridiculously discounted price. However, as the offspring of probably the most organised and decisive woman in history, the countdown to Christmas always seems like a countdown to the demise of my sanity – and my bank account. I spend my lunchtimes online window shopping with the hope that the next company website I visit will surprise me and I’ll receive a phone call stating that I’m the 1,000,000,000th customer to view the website today and they want to give me a free £1,000 shopping voucher just to say thanks. A slight exaggeration maybe but with a family that are discerning, to say the least, and and a bank account that seems to swallow money, I’d like to think of myself as number one bargain hunter. If I can get 10% off an item, come heaven or hell that 10% is staying put in the comfort of my spacious purse. That’s why I planned to be first in line when I heard that we at Fraser Hart were launching a two day 10% off online exclusive event.

10% off everything online, excluding selected brands - two days only

With 10% off practically everything, I planned to snatch up a couple of gorgeous Tresor Paris bracelets (some of which currently come with two free pairs of earrings) for my nieces who worship anything sparkly and a Links of London charm for my Secret Santa nominee – how lucky is she?

Tresor Paris Neptune exclusive 6mm pink crystal bracelet with 2 pairs of free earings

I’m going to get a delectable Rachel Galley amethyst ring for my best friend (amethyst is her birthstone – and I might just grab something from the collection for myself. After all, I deserve a treat after all this shopping! Mum adores her diamonds so I’ll indulge her with a pair of diamond earrings. Oh – and how about one of those amazing Citizen Eco-Drive Proximity Bluetooth watches for the boyfriend who needs something to stop him losing his fourth iPhone 5!

Maybe come Tuesday my mini panic will be over, and I’ll have time to sit down and write my own letter to Santa Claus. But wait – all the best laid plans. As usual, I’ve left it until the last minute. This spectacular 10% off offer ends in just over 3 hours. Must go shop!

Fraser Hart congratulates Felix Baumgartner

Fraser Hart congratulates Felix Baumgartner, the Austrian
skydiver, daredevil and BASE jumper. He set the world record for skydiving an estimated 39 kilometres (128,000 ft), (pretty high!) reaching an estimated speed of 1,342 kilometres per hour (834 mph), or Mach 1.24, (pretty fast!) on 14 October 2012. He is also renowned for the particularly dangerous nature of the stunts he has performed during his career. Baumgartner spent time in theAustrian military where he practiced parachute jumping, including training to
land on small target zones.

Baumgartner’s most recent project was Red Bull Stratos, in
which he jumped to Earth from a helium balloon (not quite like the party balloons we know and love!) in the stratosphere on 14 October 2012. As part of this project, he set the altitude record for a manned balloon flight, parachute jump from the highest altitude, and greatest free fall velocity.

Whilst performing this incredible feat Felix wore a Zenith
Stratos watch. I am not sure he will have been able to check the time during
the fall but what a testament to this great watch brand that a timepiece
performed under these incredible conditions.

Fraser Hart showcases the Zenith brand and if you click here
you will be able to view our Zenith stockists.
